MedPage Today (4/7, Hlavinka) reports researchers found in a small study that “an accelerated, high-dose transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy significantly improved depression symptoms.” The findings were published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, a publication of the American Psychiatric Association. HealthDay (4/7, Norton) reports that in the study, 19 of 21 patients “saw their symptoms go into remission” after treatment. According to HealthDay, TMS is typically delivered daily for six weeks, but in the study, the researchers delivered “more electrical pulses at each session, and the sessions were consolidated into 10 per day, over five consecutive days.” (SOURCE: APA Headlines)
