Healio (7/27, Gawel) reports a study presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference found that “patients who used combinations of cardiovascular therapies experienced slower cognitive decline and fewer neuropathologies related to dementia.” Researchers observed that “patients who used all three classes of medications – antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and antidiabetes – had slower decline in global cognition compared with those who used no medications,” especially in semantic and working memory. In addition, “among autopsied patients who had used all three classes, odds for atherosclerosis and arteriolosclerosis were lower, but odds for brain infarcts were higher, especially macroinfarcts.” (SOURCE: APA Headlines)
