Modern Healthcare (6/27, Tepper, Subscription Publication) reported CMS “will test a new model that adds prior authorization requirements to some services for traditional Medicare.” The agency on Friday unveiled its Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction model, a “voluntary six-year program” that “will recruit healthcare service companies to use technology to implement prior authorization requirements for certain services.” The model comes after a commitment announced last week by regulators and health insurance companies “to reform prior authorizations in private coverage,” but in this case, “instead of removing preapproval requirements,” CMS will add them.  (SOURCE: APA Headlines)
