Medscape (12/17, Murphy, Subscription Publication) reports, “Focused light therapy may improve sleep and reduce symptoms of depression and agitation in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias, new research suggests.” The study “showed that a higher level of light was significantly associated with improved sleep quality scores from baseline and vs a lower level of light.” Additionally, “the higher light level intervention was also associated with decreased symptoms of depression and agitation – both of which are often part of AD and related dementias.” The research was published in the December issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
