KQED-FM San Francisco (2/6) reports on the experimental treatment for depression known as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). The findings of a small study published online Oct. 29 in the American Journal of Psychiatry, a publication of the American Psychiatric Association, revealed that “impressive results are possible in five days of treatment or less.” Nearly “80% of patients crossed into remission…within a month,” compared with “about 13% of people who received the placebo treatment,” the study revealed. The article focuses on one woman’s personal experience with rTMS. (SOURCE: APA Headlines)
