Parkinson’s News Today (5/6, Lobo) reports a study found that “low-dose psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound, may be a promising therapy for mood issues including depression and anxiety in people with Parkinson’s disease.” Researchers observed that among study participants, depression “was significantly reduced at both the one-week and one-month follow-up evaluations.” Meanwhile, anxiety “was also significantly eased at the one-week follow-up evaluation, but changes after one month failed to reach statistical significance.” Researchers also observed that study results “pointed to psilocybin’s potential benefits for patients’ cognitive and motor function.” The study was published in Neuropsychopharmacology.
